All the Jewellery

For ‘All the Jewellery’ at RMIT Design Hub, we created a large-scale 14-channel video installation documenting an expansive public program exploring the ideas, practices and future of contemporary jewellery.

The exhibition was developed in dialogue with Lisa Walker: She wants to go to her bedroom but she can’t be bothered, a major retrospective of the influential New Zealand jeweller curated by Kate Rhodes and Nella Themelios. Walker’s practice questions the boundaries of jewellery, challenging conventional ideas around materials, wearability, value, skill and what jewellery can be.

‘All the Jewellery’ extended these ideas beyond the gallery walls through a program of weekly workshops, discussions, masterclasses, performances and other forms of collective enquiry. Each session posed a different question about contemporary jewellery, bringing together jewellers, artists, academics, curators, gallerists and collectors to debate the field from multiple perspectives.

Our role was to document this extensive program across 14 channels of video, capturing hour-long roundtable discussions, workshops and talks led by artists, academics and industry leaders including Lisa Walker, Robyn Healy, Debris Facility and Hannah Presley, among others.

The scale of the project presented a unique production challenge. Rather than creating a conventional documentation film, we developed a multi-channel video work capable of holding multiple conversations and perspectives simultaneously, allowing the accumulation of voices, ideas and debates to become part of the exhibition itself.

The resulting 14-channel video installation became an integral component of All the jewellery, transforming hours of live discussion and exchange into an immersive audiovisual archive of contemporary jewellery practice.

The project demonstrates our approach to cultural filmmaking, exhibition documentation and audiovisual installation, working with complex ideas, multiple contributors and substantial volumes of recorded material to create engaging experiences for gallery audiences.
